SUMMARY

Plans and coordinates activities of personnel engaged in extracting limestone from surface mines, pits or quarries by performing the following duties.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned

  • Review daily production reports – tracks daily production to maintain and assure that adequate shot stone is prepared to me our daily production goals for our Primary circuit.
  • Works with quality control to solve problems with stone
  • Oversees daily production and/or pit operations
    • Pit operations include drilling and blasting
  • Look for way to improve production
  • Helps train employees on new tasks
  • Directs blasting and drilling operations – does drilling and blasting schedule
  • Monitor explosives inventory, blasting reports and drill logs for accuracy
    • Review seismograph reports to ensure site is within legal limits
  • Ensure all mobile equipment is operating in a safe and efficient manner
  • Ensure sufficient material available to meet production schedules without stoppage
  • Help with MSHA inspections
  • Keep task training records up to date
  • Manage contractors to ensure safe and effective work standards are met
  • Development of mine plans
  • Follow all government regulatory requirements

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervises personnel within the quarry.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school degree or GED equivalent, a Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four year college or university would be preferred; or four years related experience. Must be able to effectively use computer to analyze operations and produce reports for themselves, employees and upper management.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees, customers and the general public.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals to calculate proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume.

Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract variables.
